Bruce Allen is the Executive Vice President of Football Operations & General Manager of the Washington Redskins of the National Football League. Previously, Allen served as General Manager for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2004-2008) and as a Senior Executive with the Oakland Raiders (1996-2003).

Bruce Allen, the former general manager of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, has been hired to replace Vinny Cerrato, the Redskins have announced. His title is executive vice president/general manager, and he takes over immediately.

Allen was Tampa Bay’s GM from 2004 until last January, when he was fired along with coach Jon Gruden. Prior to that, he worked for the Oakland Raiders under the title of Senior Assistant. He helped steer the Raiders during their run to the Super Bowl XXXVII at the end of the 2002 season.

Allen is the son of former Redskins coach George Allen and grew up in Virginia, near Washington. His father is still a legend in Redskins circles.

The hire fuels speculation that Gruden will reunite with Allen with the Redskins, with many believing second-year coach Jim Zorn will be fired at the end of the season. Gruden has downplayed talk of a return to the sideline, signing a multiyear deal Nov. 16 to remain as an analyst with ESPN’s Monday Night Football.
