The Pittsburgh Steelers begin their run at repeating

The Pittsburgh Steelers begin their run at repeating as Super Bowl champions on Thursday against the Tennessee Titans. The road will be a long and arduous one, as they carry the bullseye on their back, but after a 3-1 preseason that saw the team improve with each game, the Steelers are ready for the challenge. The Steelers will try and avoid another letdown in the season following a Super Bowl victory. After defeating the Seattle Seahawks in Super Bowl XL 23-10, the Steelers went 8-8 and failed to make the playoffs.
2008 Year In Review
The Steelers finished the 2008 regular season with a 12-4 record en route to capturing the AFC North Title and earning a first-round bye in the playoffs. Pittsburgh started off the season well with a 5-1 record. The lone loss was to cross-state rival Philadelphia 15-6 in Week 3. The start included close wins against the Browns (10-6) and Jaguars (26-21) along with a 23-20 overtime victory over the Baltimore Ravens in Week 4.

The middle part of the schedule was a bit bumpier, as the Steelers went 1-2 from Weeks 8-10 with loses coming against the Giants (21-14) in Week 8 and Colts (24-20) in Week 10. The losses were sandwiched around a 23-6 win over the Washington Redskins. The Steelers then hit prime form and ripped off five straight wins to improve to 11-3. During the winning streak, the Steelers knocked off the Patriots 33-10 in Week 13, the Cowboys 20-13 in Week 14 and the Ravens again 13-9 in Week 15.
